Apprentices from across the UK will soon be battling it out to become the best trainee drywaller and flying the flag for their region in SkillBuild, Britains's biggest skills competition, organsised by ConstructionSkills. This is the first year that drywalling will feature as part of SkillBuild, which is the feeder competition to gain access to the UK squad in WorldSkills, the highlight of the international skills calendar. WorldSkills will be hosted in London in 2011.This year, plastering and drywalling was included as a demonstration event at the Calgary WorldSKills competition and it is hoped to become a judged category in London 2011.Regional heats for the drywalling competition will commence at the beginning of December 2009 and will culminate at a national final in March 2010. To be eligible for WorldSkills 2011 the trainee must have been born on or after 1st January 1989.
*This competition may be rescheduled to 8-10 September 2010 at Coleg Menai in Wales if there are not enough trainees who meet the WorldSkills age criteria.Entry forms for all venues, except Oaklands College, must be received by 7th December 2009.
